Would You Date A …

… minor.

I know the title sounds suspicious and weird (and would place my name somewhere in the Epstein files…), but this was the title of the car game that my friends and I came up with when driving back from Sedona. I thought it was actually pretty fun and not anywhere online, so documenting it here would be the natural next choice.

This is a cooperative game needing around 3 to 5 people. We played it with 4, and it worked well.

Each player independently chooses a private number between 1 and 100. This number should not be revealed in any case. The objective of the game is simple: as a group creatively determine the order of the numbers from smallest to largest without explicitly saying numbers themselves.

The game proceeds in rounds with each round simply consisting of asking question that doesn’t involve explicit numbers, with each person replying either “yes”, “no” or “maybe” (or thereabouts) publicly. Since the game is cooperative, you determine together whether additional rounds are needed.

Once enough information is obtained, each player simply states what they think the order is, and then is verified against the truth. This is when everyone reveals their numbers.

So some questions to avoid:

  • Is your number bigger than 50?
  • Is your number divisible by 5?
  • Does your number start with a 3?

Rather, try questions like

  • If you dated someone who is the age of the number, would it be weird? Hence the name.
  • How happy would you be if you saw this number on the final fora very hard college class?
  • Can you eat this many hot dogs in 24 hours?

This makes the game a learnable experience.
